On October 26, 2013, Friendship Collegiate Academy’s Leadership Team volunteered in a “Make a Difference Day” event at the Allen House Senior Apartments.  Friendship’s students under the direction of Mr. Wali Farid painted hallways, planted flowers, took photographs and conducted interviews.

The Leadership Students repainted the waiting room and basement walls of Allen House Senior Apartments. The students also dug out deeply rooted weeds and laid down new soil for vibrant flowers to grow.  As a result, the property manager and the residents of Allen House Senior Apartments were elated with all the hard work the students performed.

As the students worked, FNN (Friendship News Network) went inside the Allen House to photograph the 90’s Society Club, Dr. Rev. Dr. Willie B. Allen, the founder of Allen House and its senior citizens. In addition, FNN interviewed Juwan Marshall who works for Serve DC.  Serve DC provides grants to schools and organizations and promotes volunteerism within D.C. communities.

Overall “Make a Difference Day” was a huge success for both the Allen House Senior Apartments and Friendship Collegiate Academy.

Mr. Farid and Friendship Collegiate Academy looks forward to its newly established partnership with the Allen House Senior Apartments.
